CBEST / CHSPE

EVAN SAYS:

The two tests on this past are specific to California so let me briefly describe them and offer some book recommendations.

CBEST

This was a test I took and passed years ago when I was considering substitute teacher. People usually take it when pursuing a teaching career. Wikipedia does a good job at giving a further breakdown here.

The test has a reading, mathematics and writing section. CBEST stands forĀ California Basic Educational Skills TestĀ so the content not overly demanding. Here are some suggested books.

CHSPE

In California, there is also the California High School Proficiency Exam (CHSPE), which when passed, you receive a certificate that can equate to a high school diploma. There is an English-Language Arts section and a Mathematics section. If you are studying for the CHSPE, these two books come highly recommended.
