SHSAT

EVAN SAYS

"The Specialized High School Admissions Test (SHSAT) is what you need to take to get into 8 of the 9 New York City Specialized High Schools.  (LaGuardia requires an audition or portfolio.)

The SHSAT is administered by the NYC Department of Education and is only available to New York City residents in the 8th grade. There is a 9th grade version, but there is limited availability.

The test is demanding as of the approximately 28,000+ students that took the SHSAT in 2016, less than 20% of those students were accepted to a New York City Specialized High School."

MATERIALS ADVICE

“I have found two strong books for the tests as they provide plenty of practice: the Argo Prep book has 5 tests plus content review while the Tutorverse book offers over 1000 questions! Since Argo Prep is out of print I added the popular Kaplan book.”
